A 15-year-old girl, an alleged victim of rape, tried to take her own life by jumping in front of a train in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi on Saturday. The minor, who jumped in the path of a goods train on the Delhi-Howrah railway line, was seriously injured. After getting information, police reached the spot and took her to the district hospital.


According to a PTI report, the minor was allegedly raped by her school principal.


The accused, D.K. Mishra, is the principal of Rambali Sharma Saraswati Bal Mandir School, located in Bharwari Municipal Council under the Kokhraj police station area.


A purported video of the principal in an objectionable position with the victim circulated on social media about four days ago. Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Bhanu Bhaskar said an individual named Raju Singh Lodh made the video public. He was arrested on Saturday.


Circle Officer Sirathu Awadhesh Kumar Vishwakarma has formed a team to investigate the case.

The principal was arrested based on the video after the family filed a complaint. The case was registered under sections 376 (punishment for rape), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, and provisions of the Information Technology Act and the POCSO Act.


Vishwakarma said the girl attempted suicide because she was upset about the video going viral. 


8-Year-Old Raped 


The news comes after an eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped on Friday. The child was playing near her house in a village in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, when the incident occurred. According to a PTI report, the accused lives in the same village and lured the child into a nearby forest before allegedly raping her. The police said that the accused had been arrested.
