A Navy officer has been arrested for allegedly using forged documents to illegally send people to South Korea. A Mumbai police officer said on Friday Lt Commander Vipin Kumar Dagar, aged 28, was caught by the Crime Branch in Colaba on Thursday. He is believed to be part of a network that facilitated sending people to South Korea using forged documents, reported news agency PTI. Dagar would misuse his official position to help the network.
"Several of Dagar's accomplices have confessed to having sent 8-10 people to South Korea, charging up to Rs 10 lakh per person. Dagar, originally from Haryana, is the son of an Air Force officer. He was produced in court on Friday has been placed in police custody until July 5," the officer was quoted as saying.
The Indian Express reported that the network or gang was running a fake visa racket, They would entice people with promises of good earning opportunities and then prepare the fake documents for the visa, such as medical certificates and bank statements. They would then send the details to Dagar who would use his official position to help the racket members.
According to the report, Dagar would visit the South Korean Embassy in his Indian Navy uniform and ask the officials there to hasten the visa clearance procedure for these individuals. He would pressure them to ignore certain discrepancies that might have cropped up. “Dagar even created a ruckus at the consulate general last month after they refused a visa to one of their candidates. The candidate was a resident of Jammu and Kashmir and had allegedly submitted forged documents. Dagar fought with an embassy official over the refusal of a visa to his candidate who he claimed was a doctor in a dental hospital in Jammu and his brother,” a police officer was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
A majority of these visa applicants were from Jammu & Kashmir.
According to the Crime Branch, Dagar joined the Indian Navy around 6 years ago and had been with the Western Naval Command for the past year. According tho various reports, Dagar holds a BE degree in mechanical engineering from INS Kerala.
