A woman in Haryana's Yamuna Nagar city on Saturday escaped a kidnapping attempt after the accused ran away from the scene of the crime. The failed attempt by kidnappers was also captured on CCTV camera and the police arrested one of the accused.

The woman went back to the car after visiting the gym when four people entered the car and tried kidnapping her, reported news agency ANI.  “One accused has been caught. Probe underway,” said DSP Kamaldeep Singh, Yamuna Nagar.

The video footage shows the men near the car waiting for the right moment to kidnap the woman. However, it is unclear what prompted them to flee the crime scene.

It is worth noting that crimes against women in the Millennium City in Haryana witnessed a marginal decline this year compared with 2021 and the percentage of cases solved, including murder and snatching, improved, according to Gurugram Police data, reported the Hindu.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Preetpal Sangwan told the publication that cases of rape and molestation filed in the district fell from 220 and 234 last year to 187 and 214 in 2022, respectively.

The video comes as an allegation of sexual harassment has been levelled against Haryana sports minister Sandeep Singh. The Chandigarh Police on Saturday said an inquiry will be conducted into the allegation and all aspects will be looked into, according to news agency PTI.

The allegation was made by a junior athletics coach from the state on Thursday and the next day she approached the police with a complaint. On his part, the minister has dismissed the charge as baseless and has called for an independent probe.
