Gold Smugglers Caught On Flight After Shifty Behaviour Gives Away Their Plan

Passengers raised suspicions because sat completely still throughout the three-and-a-half-hour flight and refused any food or beverages offered by the flight staff.

Three individuals were caught smuggling gold after they raised suspicion among the air staff after they refused three meal services. While travelling on Indigo Airlines flight 6E-1802 from Uzbekistan’s Almaty to Delhi the air staff noticed that the individuals refused all three of their meal services, and sat completely still throughout the three-and-a-half-hour flight.

As the air staff grew more suspicious further, they also tried offering them tea and water all of which the passengers refused. One of the air staff members informed the flight captain, who then contacted customs through air traffic control.

According to New 18, when the flight landed in Delhi around 1:30 am customs officers were ready to intercept the three passengers. The passengers cleared the green channel, however, they were stopped for questioning, and their baggage was X-rayed. Though nothing was found initially, upon inspection using a Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD) also yielded no results.

Yet customs officials took the three to a private room for interrogation, upon questions all three individuals they confessed that they had concealed gold pieces within their rectums. The authorities recovered eight pieces of gold that weighed approximately 439 grams. The passengers were arrested and taken into custody, according to reports.

Meanwhile, a passenger travelling domestically from Madhya Pradesh's Indore to New Delhi was intercepted on Friday by customs officials based on intelligence input at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.

According to customs officials, the airport security recovered 13 yellow metal pieces of gold weighing nearly 999 grams. The estimated value of the foreign-origin gold is worth Rs 72.72 lakhs. According to ANI, airport security noticed suspicious images during the X-ray of the baggage. The passenger was intercepted by the officials based on information provided by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs at IGI Airport.

In a separate case that took place a week ago, customs officials recovered a silver-coloured gold bar, weighing 117.00 grams concealed in a cream box after intercepting a passenger travelling from Saudi Arabia's Riyadh to New Delhi. At the exit of the green channel and during the x-ray of baggage, some suspicious images were noticed by the authorities.
