Delhi Police on Thursday busted a sextortion racket and arrested two accused from Haryana's Mewat in connection with the case. The police team also recovered seven mobile phones from the duo, which turned out to be linked with 25 more cases. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Apoorva Gupta while speaking about the case stated that the sextortion gang targeted a 71-year-old doctor in 2023.

She stated that the victim received a video call on 15th July 2023 and when he picked up the call he found a girl in a compromising position on the other side. During the call, a video clip of a few minutes was recorded without his knowledge after which the old man began receiving calls threatening him that the video would be leaked. He was duped of Rs 8.75 lakhs in return. However, he eventually informed the Cyber Cell East about the incident.

"As soon as we received the complaint, we registered a case on it...We got a lead in which an identity emerged that belonged to a person living in Mewat and after that, we sent a team and raided his house. We were successful in arresting him and his brother and recovered 7 mobile phones from them. Apart from this, we have been able to link more cases from their bank accounts, which are yet to be verified, but we suspect that these are probable victims," DCP stated.

In another sextortion rakcet busted by the Delhi Police last year, two minors and three men were arrested in connection with the case. The gang operated out of Rajasthan and targeted around 20 men aged between 50-70 from various states including Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat.

The gang used to make sexually explicit video calls to people and blackmailed them by threatening to post their videos online or sharing them with their families.

The police seized six mobile phones from the five gang members and found 24 sexually explicit videos of various men on them.
