A 37-year-old man was arrested by Pulakeshinagar police for allegedly harassing and forcibly kissing two women in east Bengaluru on the night of June 6. The accused, S Madan, a resident of Banasawadi, was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody on Tuesday.

Bengaluru Man Gropes Women In Public

According to police, the incidents took place within minutes of each other. The first woman was walking with her family when Madan allegedly approached and behaved inappropriately. He then reportedly entered a nearby park and forcibly hugged and kissed another woman on the lips, allegedly saying, “I’m single, hug me” before assaulting her.

Based on complaints from both women, an FIR was registered under Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)—provisions that deal with assault with intent to outrage a woman’s modesty and sexual harassment, as per a report on India Today.

Madan was produced in court the following day. His family told police that he had left his private-sector job after being diagnosed with anxiety and depression.

CCTV Trail Leads To Arrest

Investigators traced Madan’s movements through CCTV footage, which showed him arriving at the park via a BMTC bus and returning home by another bus, reported Times of India. He was arrested at his residence in Banasawadi.

It is reported that Madan was uncooperative and aggressive during interrogation, allegedly shouting and attempting to assault police personnel. The Pulakeshinagar incident has prompted fresh calls for enhanced surveillance and policing in public spaces across the city.

This incident comes amid growing concerns about women’s safety in Bengaluru. In a separate case in April, a man was caught on CCTV molesting a woman in BTM Layout around 1:55 am.

Following the incident, a 29-year-old cab driver was arrested from Kerala's Kozhikode.
