A 51-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife and attempting to cover up the crime by making it appear as a natural death. The arrest took place just minutes before her cremation after police received an anonymous tip-off raising suspicions about the cause of death.
The incident occurred on February 23 in Neraleghatta under the jurisdiction of the Doddaballapura Rural Police Station. According to police, the accused, Lakshmaiah, returned home intoxicated and got into a heated argument with his 45-year-old wife, Radhamma, as per a report on PTI. In a violent outburst, he allegedly grabbed her by the hair, smashed her head against a wall, and repeatedly assaulted her with an electric heating coil, leaving her unconscious.
The following day, Lakshmaiah informed relatives that Radhamma had died from an accidental fall. However, just as preparations for her cremation were underway, police intervened based on the anonymous call. The body was sent for a post-mortem, which confirmed that she had died due to fatal injuries inflicted during the assault.
Investigations further revealed that Lakshmaiah had a history of domestic violence, particularly when under the influence of alcohol. A senior police officer stated, "A case of murder has been registered, and Lakshmaiah has been arrested in connection with the incident."
Authorities are continuing their investigation to gather additional evidence.
In another incident in Bengaluru, a 40-year-old man allegedly strangled his 32-year-old wife in front of their minor son before taking his own life. The deceased have been identified as Suresh V, an autorickshaw driver, and Mamata G, a garment worker. Mamata was found unconscious on a diwan, while Suresh was discovered hanging in his room. Though initial reports suggest a possible murder-suicide, the exact cause of death remains unclear.
