A prisoner died and a head constable was injured during a scuffle between two prisoners and the policemen at Ajmer central jail in Rajasthan. Prisoners, Shrawan and Fardeen attacked head constable Rajesh with an iron rod and blade on Monday, injuring him critically, according to a PTI report.
Following this, other staffers rushed to their colleague's rescue and separated them. During which it was noticed that Shrawan was also injured and unconscious, according to The Times Of India's report.
The injured constable was taken to the district hospital. According to the report, Shrawan was also admitted to the hospital where he eventually died. His body has been kept in the mortuary at the JLN government hospital.

According to TOI's report, Shrawan was under treatment for HIV at the time of his death. The police recovered more than 12 iron rods from the cell. It is suspected that the prisoners may have stolen these from a construction site inside the jail.
Shrawan and Fardeen’s Transfer From Jail
Earlier, Shrawan was reportedly transferred from Jaipur jail to Ajmer Central Jail after picking a fight, according to TOI. He was sentenced for attempted murder, while Fardeen was transferred from Udaipur jail two years ago and was also sentence for attempted murder.

Police said that the reasons for the attack were not clear and the matter was being probed. They said that a case has been registered over the prisoners attacking the jail staff and later over the death of one of the inmates. As per TOI's report, postmortem report and judicial enquiry will bring further clarity to the case.
