The Rayachoti Police of Annamayya Dist in Andhra Pradesh arrested film actor and YSRCP leader Posani Krishna Murali from his residence near New Science Colony, Yellareddyguda, in Hyderabad.
Annamayya district Superintendent of Police B Krishna Rao told PTI that 66-year-old Krishna Murali was arrested in Hyderabad at 8.45 PM.
According to the arrest notice served to Krishna Murali’s wife, he was arrested under BNS Sections 196, 353 (2), and 111 read with 3 (5), along with BNSS Section 47 (1) and (2).
"The offence he is accused of (Krishna Murali) is cognisable and non-bailable in nature, and he has been forwarded to the Additional Judicial Magistrate of 1st Class, Rajampet, for judicial custody," stated the notice served under the authority of Sambepalli sub-inspector.
PTI has reported that the police is currently shifting the actor to Andhra Pradesh.
Krishna Murali's arrest comes shortly after the arrest of former Gannavaram MLA and YSRCP leader Vallabhaneni Vamsi.
Multiple cases have been booked against Posani for making alleged derogatory comments about Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Minister Nara Lokesh.
YSRCP condemned the arrest of Posani Krishna Murali, labelling it a deplorable act of vindictive politics by CM Chandrababu Naidu.
YSRCP General Secretary Gadikota Srikant Reddy, criticized the arrest as an assault on democracy, despite Posani’s withdrawal from politics and his ill health.
They accused the coalition government of using the police to silence dissent, undermine the rule of law, and push the state into chaos.
The leaders warned that such undemocratic actions would face public backlash and urged the police not to become tools of political vendetta, holding the government accountable for Posani’s well-being.
Actor Krishna Murali was associated with the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP and had also served as the chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Film, TV, and Theatre Development Corporation (APFTTDC) during the previous YSRCP regime.
