The Mumbai Traffic Police have received a death threat against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The message from an unknown number read, "If Yogi Adityanath does not resign within 10 days, we will kill him like Baba Siddiqui." The message was received on Saturday (November 2) evening, after which the security forces were on alert.
Police have arrested a 24-year-old woman for allegedly giving the death threat to CM Adityanath, an official said. The woman, identified as Fatima Khan, is a graduate in Information Technology, he added. Khan lives in the Ulhasnagar area of the neighbouring Thane district of Maharashtra with her family members. Her father is in the timber business, the official said.
The woman is well qualified but is mentally unstable, PTI reported quoting the police. The Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in a combined operation with the Ulhasnagar police traced the woman and apprehended her, the official said. Further investigation was on into the matter, the official added. Former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was shot dead in Mumbai's Bandra area on October 12.
The police are on alert as Adityanath is likely to come to Maharashtra for the state assembly election campaign and have launched a probe into the threat message, an official added.
Baba Siddique Murder
Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister and the leader of Ajit Pawar-led NCP, was shot dead outside his son's office on Dushera in Mumbai's Bandra. The leader who shared a close bond with several actors like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan was shot in the chest after which he was rushed to the Lilavati Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries. He had received a death threat just 15 days ago and was under 'Y' category security.
Police have so far arrested 15 people in the case. The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has initiated the process for the extradition of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's brother Anmol Bishnoi in connection with the case.
