A 21-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly raped by an upper caste man two years ago in August 2023. However, when matter was to the panchayat's attention, she was forced to "settle" it and given Rs 2.5 lakh by the accused to remain silent. But even after two years her ordeal continues as her wedding was called off after the accused sent a video of the sexual assault to her fiance.

Following the incident, the woman and her family decided to move to another place to get rid of the harassment and social barbs they had been facing since the crime against their daughter. The survivor's family arranged her marriage in a far away place, but the accused somehow got wind of it and sent a video of the sexual assault to her fiance. The woman's wedding was called off after this, Times Of India reported.

Accused Sent Sexual Assault Video To Survivor's Fiance, Demanded Money Back

But, the accused did not stop here. He demanded the money he had paid to the woman to remain silent. Due to the continued threats, the survivor's father met Hapur SP Kunwar Gyananjay Singh and registered a complaint, almost two years after the crime. An FIR was lodged on Thursday.

"After my daughter was violated, a panchayat was called where we were forced to settle the matter for Rs 2.5 lakh. We left the village for another place and I arranged my child's marriage to a man recently, but the accused sent an obscene video to her fiance. Her marriage was called off. What are we to do now?" the woman's father told TOI.

The report said that the accused's family recently assaulted and disrobed the survivor's mother. The woman's father told the police that the accused's family came to them demanding the money back and started misbehaving with them. When his wife opposed them, she was assaulted. "The accused tore her clothes," he said. "The initial incident was not reported to me. Now, a written complaint has been received, following which an FIR under IPC sections 376 (rape), 354 (assault or criminal force) and 506 (criminal intimidation) has been registered against five men," Hafizpur SHO Ashish Kumar told TOI."Teams have been formed to probe the matter, and arrests will be made," the SHO added.
