Three people died in West Bengal's Murshidabad district on Monday as the bomb they were assembling exploded in the Sagarpara area. One person died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

According to locals, the explosion occurred at the home of one Mamon Molla in Khairtala village of Sagarpara around 10 pm on Sunday. While one person died on the spot, the other two were taken to Murshidabad Medical College with serious injuries. The other two people also succumbed to their injuries later, according to a report by ABP Ananda.

As per preliminary investigation, police are estimating that the incident took place during the bomb-making process. However, the families of the victims claim the bombs were used to kill them by someone else.

The impact of the explosion was such that the roof and walls of the house were destroyed completely with debris falling off on the road posing a risk for surrounding areas.

The police reached the spot took control of the nearby areas and brought the situation under control while launching a probe into the incident.

Police officials say the explosion happened while making the bomb but also added that it is a matter of investigation whether it was a deliberate act or not. Police have increased security in the area.

The decesased were identified Sakirul Sarkar (32), Mamon Mollah (30) and Mustakin Shiekh (28), said a police officer, adding that those injured fled the place, reported PTI. "The explosion took place at the house of Mamon where they were making crude bombs. The roof of the house was blown away in the blast. We are investigating the matter," the police officer said.

The locals tried to take Mollah and Sarkar to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital but both succumbed on their way, he added.
