Seven people, including three women and a minor, lost their lives and eight others were injured after a speeding SUV hit three e-rickshaws in a row in the Nadia district of West Bengal, police said.


The incident occurred at Lakshmigachha in Chapra area when the e-rickshaw occupants were on their way to home follwoing shopping for the upcoming Eid festival, a police officer said, news agency PTI reported.


He added that the accident happened after a speeding SUV coming from the opposite side hit the three e-rickshaws one after another, resulting in the death of seven individuals travelling in the electric vehicles on the spot. He further noted that out of total eight injured, two of them are in serious condition.


All the injured were admitted to hospitals, and a manhunt has been initiated for the driver of the car who fled the scene leaving behind the vehicle, the officer further added.


According to a report by Hindustan Times, the driver and passengers in the SUV were reportedly intoxicated at the time of the accident, which took place around 11 am. “They were all drinking at the time of the accident,” a police officer from the Krishnanagar district police station stated. “We have registered a case, and an investigation is underway,” the office further added.


Car Crashes Into Lorry In Telangana's Narketpally; 2 Killed, 3 Injured


A friends' road trip ended on a tragic note after the car they were travelling in collided with a parked lorry in Telangana's Narketpally. Two of the friends died in the accident, while three others sustained injuries.


The incident took place early Sunday morning (March 9). Police suspect that the car driver might have failed to notice the parked lorry due to thick fog on the national highway, resulting in the deadly crash, Times Of India reported.


The deceased have been identified as 24-year-old C Sangam Sandeep and K Sai Kumar Goud aged 32. One of the deceased was seated next to the car driver, while the other was in the rear seat. The three injured were shifted to a private hospital, the report said citing Narketpally police.
