UP Gangster, Disguised As Home Guard To Evade Arrest, Caught After 35 Years

The investigation revealed that the police found Nakdu, a resident of Chakwara, killed Munna Yadav from Jehanaganj in 1984 over a personal feud, leading to a murder charge.

A former home guard, who served for 35 years, has been arrested for allegedly securing his position using forged documents and a false identity, police said on Wednesday, news agency PTI reported.

The accused identified as Nand Lal alias Nakdu, accused in multiple criminal cases, including murder, attempted murder, and dacoity, came under scrutiny after his nephew filed a complaint on December 3, accusing him of fraudulently obtaining the job.

The investigation revealed that the police found Nakdu, a resident of Chakwara, killed Munna Yadav from Jehanaganj in 1984 over a personal feud, leading to a murder charge. He faced dacoity charges in 1987 and was booked under the Gangster Act in 1988, earning him a history-sheeter status.

In September 1989, Nakdu managed to secure a home guard position using a fake identity and a forged Class 8 certificate, despite only completing primary education up to Class 4. By 1990, he adopted the alias "Nandlal Yadav" and continued working undetected under this identity.

Further investigations disclosed that in September 1992, local police and intelligence officials signed a character certificate for Nakdu, enabling him to retain his job despite his criminal background. He worked at Mehnagar police station for 35 years without raising suspicion, police added.

Azamgarh Superintendent of Police Hemraj Meena stated, "Cases are registered against Nakdu in Rani ki Sarai police station. A departmental investigation is being conducted to determine how he managed to evade detection for so long. The accused is currently in jail". 

FIR Against 14 Teachers In Bihar On Forged Documents

In a separate incident, the Bihar State Vigilance Department has filed an FIR against 14 individuals, including four women, for allegedly obtaining government school teaching jobs in East Champaran using fraudulent certificates, officials reported on Monday (January 6).

According to a Hindustan Times report, Police revealed that a total of 10,519 FIRs have been registered statewide, with 2,724 individuals accused of using fake certificates to secure positions as contractual teachers.

This crackdown follows a directive from a division bench instructing the Bihar vigilance department to investigate allegations of fake degree certificates used in teacher recruitment between 2006 and 2015.
