In a shocking incident, a woman was beaten up by a constable and his wife over payment of debt in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh on November 4. The incident reportedly took place at Shiv Amul Dairy in Saket Colony when the woman, who is said to be a shopkeeper's daughter, confronted the constable and his wife for not paying Rs 2500 they owed her father.
When the woman asked the couple to repay the money they owed, the constable's wife got into an argument with the shopkeeper's daughter. Shortly after, the constable jumped in and began dragging the woman by her hair and thrashing her for asking them to return the money. He even pressed her face on the shop's counter. The constable's wife too picked up goods from the general store and threw at the woman.
The entire incident was captured in the CCTV installed inside the general store where the woman was assaulted. The video has gone viral on social media.
UP Police constable Ankit, a resident of C Colony, bought goods from the general store in the colony, which comes under Himpur Deepa police station. The shopkeeper has alleged that the constable owed Rs 2,500 and was not paying the money.
He had gone to Dehradun to buy medicine on Monday and had asked his daughter to look after the shop in his absence. When she saw the credit account of the shop, she called the constable's wife and asked her to pay the outstanding amount. After the call, the couple reached the shop after which the clash erupted.
The woman said that the constable had a debt of Rs 4,500 and had even stopped buying goods from the shop for the last six months due to the debt. It was only after the shopkeeper's repeated calls that he finally paid Rs 2,000 before Diwali, leaving Rs 2500 due, Navbharat Times reported.
After the video surfaced, an FIR was lodged against the constable and his wife based on a complaint registered by the shopkeeper on Monday night. On Tuesday morning, the SSP suspended the constable for assaulting the woman.
