Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana on Tuesday stated that an assembly member had spit in the Vidhan Sabha hall after consuming pan masala.

He addressed the members in the assembly, and said while he doesn’t want to reveal the identity of the person, he has seen the video of the person involved, and on Tuesday, he personally ensured that the area was cleaned. He asked all MLAs to avoid such practices and maintain the dignity of the House.

"I am aware who the member is. The video is available. But I do not want to publicly take a name because I do not intend to insult anyone. The member who did it should come and meet me or I will be forced to summon him," he said.

Urged members to keep a check on others

He urged all members that if they see anyone doing this, they should stop them. He added that keeping the Assembly clean is everyone’s responsibility. “If the MLA in question comes and tells me that they have done this, it will be good; otherwise, I will call them," he said as per ANI.

Later, while addressing the press, Mahana said that there was a new perception regarding UP Vidhan Sabha.

“It is not just a Vidhan Sabha for its 403 members but for the 25 crore people of the state”, he said.

He said it was important to keep a positive image and such cases do the opposite adding “I have asked all members to keep a check on each other and not allow this to happen."
