A bizarre incident came to light from Uttar Pradesh where a groom abandoned his marriage after getting angry over not being served food on time, only to marry another woman the same night.

The incident took place on December 22 in Hamidpur village in Uttar Pradesh's Chandauli district. The groom, identified as Mehtab, arrived with his procession at the bride's residence for the wedding which had been arranged seven months earlier, reported the Economic Times.

The bride's family gave a warm welcome to the guests with sweets and later served them dinner. But the events took a bizarre turn soon as Mehtab's family accused the hosts of delaying the serving of rotis.

Efforts to calm the situation remained futile as the groom's side blamed the bride's family and left the venue in a fit of anger. To add to the shock, the groom vanished during the night and reportedly married a relative soon after.

The humiliated bride's family approached the cops and lodged a complaint at the Industrial Nagar Police Station. However, when they saw no action being taken on their complaint, the family escalated the issue to the Superintendent of Police on December 24, as per the report.

The bride's family claimed a financial loss of Rs 7 lakh, including Rs 1.5 lakh given as dowry to the groom's family. The bride requested the SP to register an FIR against five members of the groom's family and initiate legal proceedings.

The bride's brother, Raju alleged inaction by local police despite assurances from the SP. He flagged a lack of response from the authorities and expressed disappointment, especially in light of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's initiative to set up women's help desks in police stations for efficient resolution of grievances.
