A six-year-old girl was saved by a troop of monkeys from a rape attempt in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat, the girl's parents have claimed.

The accused lured the girl when she was playing outside her home and asked her to come with him. He held her hand and took the child to an abandoned house and tried to sexually assault her when suddenly the monkey arrived on the spot. The accused man allegedly got scared and ran away, police told Times Of India.

The accused, who is on the run, has been booked under relevant sections of the POCSO Act. The police have launched a search to nab him.

In CCTV cameras installed in the village, the man was seen taking the girl with him. The police are making efforts to identify the accused from the footage.

After reaching home, the girl told her parents about the incident. The girl told her parents that the man threatened to kill her and her family members if she stopped him, police said.

After the monkey attack, the girl ran to her home and told her parents about the incident, the police said. Her family reached the police station and lodged a complaint. "My daughter would have been dead by now if the monkeys didn't intervene," he said.
