At least five labourers were killed after an under-construction bridge collapsed during a severe storm in Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur district on Thursday, officials said.
The bridge reportedly crashed amid strong winds and heavy storm conditions, trapping several workers beneath the debris. Authorities fear that more labourers may still be buried under the rubble as rescue operations continue.
Police personnel from multiple police stations, along with local residents, are carrying out relief and rescue efforts at the accident site. The incident occurred in the Kurara area of Hamirpur district.
According to officials, the bridge was being constructed to connect Morakandar village under Lalpur police station limits with Mawaijar village in Kurara.

UP CM Expresses Grief
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took immediate cognisance of the incident and expressed deep grief over the loss of lives.
The Chief Minister conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and directed senior officials to immediately reach the spot and intensify relief and rescue operations.
He also instructed authorities to accelerate the rescue mission with the assistance of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and ensure proper medical treatment for the injured.
Additionally, the Chief Minister directed officials to provide adequate compensation to the families of the deceased and maintain regular communication with them to ensure all possible assistance is extended.
