Meerut Building Collapse: A three-storey building collapsed in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut on Saturday. Three people were killed and two others sustained injuries in the collapse. Seven people people still remain trapped under the debris. It is being suspected that the building collapsed due to incessant rain over the past days. National Disaster Response Force, police, and fire brigade teams are working to rescue those trapped under the debris.












"Twelve people got buried under the debris after the sudden collapse of the house. Till now, five people have been taken out from the debris. Of them, three died and two injured have been admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College," news agency PTI reported citing the relief commissioner's office.


It further said that the incident occurred around 5:15 PM following which the emergency services were alerted. 


The owner of the building has been identified as Nafo Alauddin. He ran a dairy from the building. Taking cognizance of the collapse, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the officials to reach the spot and expedite the relief work. He has also instructed the officials to provide proper treatment to the injured.


Meerut Division Commissioner Selva Kumari J, SSP Vipin Tada, and SP City Ayush Vikram Singh are present at the spot. People from the neighbourhood are also helping in the rescue efforts.






Selva Kumari, Commissioner Meerut Division said: "A building has collapsed in Zakir Colony. 8-10 people are trapped under it. Rescue operation is underway...Police and fire officials are carrying out rescue operation. Army, NDRF, SDRF have been informed."
