A team of Delhi Police arrived at the residence of AAP leader Amanatullah Khan on Monday in connection with allegations against his supporters of freeing a murder accused from police custody.
The team of police personnel arrived at the residence of the AAP MLA, who recently won the Okhla seat, on Monday evening. However, Khan was not present at his home.
Delhi Police earlier today registered an FIR against the newly-elected MLA after his supporters forcibly freed an accused from police custody.
The case is regarding an incident involving the supporters of Amanatullah Khan, who allegedly helped a murder accused, Shahwez Khan, escape from police custody. The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police had gone to arrest Shahwez, , who is wanted in an attempted murder case, from Jamia Nagar.
However, when police officers took him into custody, Amanatullah Khan, along with his supporters intervened, questioning the legitimacy of the arrest and claiming that the individual was not a criminal. While the supporters of the MLA reportedly confronted the police team, Shabaz fled from the spot.
The local police meanwhile investigating the case against the AAP MLA and his supporters. The police sources said the cops reached Amanatullah's residence for questioning in the case. However, he was not present at his residence.
According to the police sources, Amanatullah Khan was present at the scene when the attack occurred allowing the accused to flee.
Amantullah Khan on Saturday defeated BJP's Manish Chaudhary by a margin of 23,639 votes in the Okhla constituency in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly polls. Khan got 88,392 votes whereas BJP's Chaudhary got 65,304 votes. Khan has won the elections from Okhla for the third consecutive time.
