Strong winds and dust storms swept several parts of Delhi and cities adjoining such as Uttar Pradesh's Noida and Ghaziabad, on Saturday afternoon. Earlier on Friday, similar weather was experienced in several areas.
According to news agency ANI's video on X, trees were uprooted and fell on vehicles in parts of Noida after heavy rainfall accompanied by wind. The vehicular movements are also affected.
The Rapid Rail Metro Ashok Nagar station shed was also damaged by the strong winds accompanied by rain. News agency ANI posted a video showing a traffic pole falling after heavy rainfall and wind at Noida's DM Chowk.
In the video, the movement of the vehicle could be seen slowing due to the traffic pole.
A tree was also uprooted and fell on vehicles near PVR Plaza in CP.,
CM Yogi Directs Officials To Carry Out Relief Work Soon
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday directed officials in districts affected by storm, rain, and hailstorm to carry out relief work promptly and effectively, an official statement said. According to news agency PTI, he asked officers to visit the affected areas, monitor the relief operations closely, and ensure that assistance reaches those in need without delay.
In case of loss of human life or livestock due to disasters such as lightning, storms, or heavy rain, immediate distribution of relief funds must be ensured. The injured should be provided with proper medical care, the statement further added.
The UP CM also instructed the officials to conduct a survey to assess crop damage and submit a report to the government for further action. He emphasised that arrangements for water drainage in waterlogged areas should be made as a priority, the statement said.
Delhi-NCR Receives Light Rain
Several parts of Delhi and the national capital region received light rain on Saturday afternoon. According to the India Meteorological Department, around 1 mm of rainfall was recorded in the city till 3 pm. Central Delhi, Maharani Bagh, Mayur Vihar, Ghaziabad, and Noida were among the places that received light showers after a cloudy morning. Relative humidity was recorded at 55 per cent at 8:30 am. The minimum temperature was 24.3 degrees celsius, 2.2 notch below the season's average, the IMD said.
