Two police constables sustained injuries after being nearly run over by a speeding SUV allegedly driven by Pushpraj Patel, the son of Congress MLA Sena Mahesh Patel, in Madhya Pradesh’s Alirajpur district, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

According to Alirajpur SP Rajesh Vyas, a case under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempt to murder has been registered against Pushpraj Patel in connection with the incident, which occurred on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

SUV Speeds Toward Police On Patrol

The two constables were on routine patrol near a bus stand when the SUV, allegedly driven by Pushpraj, sped in their direction. “The officers were standing next to their patrol vehicle when the SUV came straight at them. They suffered injuries while trying to avoid being hit,” SP Vyas told PTI.

A CCTV video of the incident that surfaced online Monday appears to support the allegations. It shows the vehicle barreling toward the officers, who leap out of harm’s way at the last moment. The disturbing footage has since gone viral on social media, prompting public outrage and demands for strict action.

Past Controversies Of Pushpraj Patel

This is not the first time Pushpraj Patel has faced serious allegations. In 2023, he was booked for abetment of suicide following the death of 25-year-old Damini Thakur from Alirajpur district. The young woman had reportedly hanged herself after being harassed and threatened by the accused, who was allegedly pressuring her to marry him.

"We had received a complaint from the woman’s family that Pushpraj Singh Patel was forcing her into marriage. The case was filed after her suicide,” a senior police officer had said.

The latest incident has added to growing concerns about the repeated involvement of influential individuals in criminal activities. Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
