An investigation into a robbery in Sivaganga district on Thursday has uncovered a case of gang rape involving a woman. According to police, the incident occurred when a couple was at their farm.


Initially, two men attacked the woman's male friend, and later, three additional men joined in to sexually assault the woman, as reported by NDTV.


The couple was hesitant to report the sexual violence and only informed the police about the injuries suffered by the male friend and that the miscreants snatched his mobile. During interrogation, the police suspected that something was amiss.


After the police assured the woman of their support, she decided to open up about the sexual assault and later gave a formal complaint on Wednesday.


The police registered a case under Section 70 of the BNS. Acting on the complaint, the Manamadurai All-Women Police shared photographs of the suspects with the woman, who was able to identify one of them. Following this identification, police detained one suspect and subsequently arrested all five individuals involved in the crime on Thursday, according to a report on The New Indian Express. During the apprehension, one of the accused reportedly broke his leg while attempting to escape.


Further, investigations are ongoing in the region.


Hoever, the incident has raised serious concerns about safety in the area, prompting calls for increased vigilance and support for victims of violence.


Meanwhile, a 22-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped near her home in Thanjavur by her friend and his friends last month. The man reportedly called her and told her to come to a secluded place opposite her house. Once she reached the spot, the man along with his friends gangraped her. The woman then gave a complaint to Orathanadu All Women Police Station based on which action was initiated against them.
