Schools Across Kashmir, Border Districts Of Punjab To Reopen Tomorrow As India-Pak Tensions Ease

All the schools in these areas were closed after Pakistan began intense artillery shelling following India's launch of ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

The Jammu and Kashmir government announced on Monday that schools across the Kashmir Valley will reopen tomorrow, excluding the border districts of Kupwara, Baramulla, and the Gurez sub-division in Bandipora.

Similarly, the Punjab government has declared that schools in Ferozepur will also resume operations tomorrow. The development came after the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC).

Pakistan's Intense Artillery Shelling

During the operation, India carried out strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), hitting major operational hubs of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen.

But, in retaliation, Pakistan began intense artillery shelling along the Line of Control using nearly 400 drones to attack 36 locations, from Siachen to Sir Creek. Indian Armed Forces were able to counter these drones as well as missile attacks, but a few of the drones and missiles managed to hit a few border areas.

Amid the intense artillery shelling, a few army officials lost their lives, and several citizens were injured. In addition, several people residing along the border area in Jammu and Kashmir were relocated temporarily by the state authority.

During the 'Operation Sindoor', the strikes reached deep into Pakistani territory, including Punjab province and high-risk zones like Bahawalpur, areas where even the US has previously avoided drone deployment.

It not only served as retaliation but also signaled a shift in India’s anti-terror policy through a combination of military accuracy, strategic planning, and diplomatic outreach.

The operation demonstrated India’s readiness to strike well beyond the Line of Control (LoC), making it clear that no region in Pakistan would remain a safe haven for terrorists or their enablers. By targeting both militants and their backers, India disrupted the long-standing sense of impunity among Pakistani elements involved in terrorism.
