A controversy broke out on Wednesday in Telangana's Hyderabad after meat was discovered inside a temple. However, the matter was resolved after the police confirmed through CCTV footage that a cat had entered the shrine carrying what was later identified as mutton.

According to a report by news agency PTI, the incident, which took place at Tappachabutra in the old city, initially sparked tension until police verified through video footage that the cat was responsible.

Earlier in the day, protests erupted after a piece of meat was found inside the Lord Shiva Temple located within the Hanuman Temple premises under the jurisdiction of Tappachabutra Police Station.

According to a statement released by Hyderabad Police, they received information on Wednesday morning about a piece of meat found inside the temple premises. Following the input, police quickly came into action leading senior officials to visit the temple to assess the situation.

Meat Found To Be Mutton

Police said the meat, weighing around 250 grams, was seized but later it was found to be mutton. To investigate the matter, four teams were immediately deployed to review CCTV footage from the surrounding area.

During the investigation, CCTV footage from a camera near the temple revealed a cat entering the premises with a piece of meat in its mouth, police stated. The video evidence confirmed that the cat was responsible for placing the meat behind the Shiva Lingam.

After these findings, police officials urged the public to avoid spreading rumors or misinformation about the incident.

Earlier, a temple committee member claimed on a TV channel that someone had thrown meat near the Shiva Lingam, which was later noticed by devotees arriving for puja.

Local residents, along with Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) members, gathered outside the temple to protest and raise slogans against the incident. A case was registered, and the police launched an investigation.
