A major road accident occurred in the Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. A tempo traveller overturned near Gramphu on the Kokhsar-Rohtang route, resulting in a tragic crash.

The vehicle reportedly lost control and rolled down the slope due to the lack of a flat surface. Two passengers died on the spot, while at least 20 others sustained injuries. The tempo traveller was registered in Sonipat, Haryana, and was carrying a total of 24 passengers. The injured were given initial treatment at a local facility before being referred to a hospital in Manali for further care.

Upon receiving information about the incident, three police teams from the Lahaul-Spiti district were immediately dispatched to the scene. Superintendent of Police Ilma Afroz said that a rescue operation was launched under the supervision of Deputy SP Headquarters, Keylong. She confirmed two fatalities, a man and a woman, while the remaining injured were transported to Manali for advanced medical attention.

Rescue Operation Conducted on War Footing

Rescue and relief operations were carried out on a war footing with assistance from local residents. All injured passengers were safely evacuated from the accident site. The mishap occurred around 6 PM. Authorities are continuously monitoring the condition of the injured.

As of now, the identities of the deceased and injured have not been officially confirmed. SP Afroz said efforts are underway to identify the victims and notify their families. The exact cause of the accident is still unknown, and police have registered a case and begun an investigation. A wave of sorrow has swept through the region, and the administration has urged travellers to exercise caution.
