Thousands of protestors joined doctors in a candlelight vigil against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
People in large numbers gathered together in several parts of the Bengal capital switching off their lights at 9 pm in the protest call named 'Ujala hone do, Nyay hone do' (Let there be light, let there be justice).
Visuals from different parts of Kolkata, including Shyam Bazaar, RG Kar Medical College, Jadavpur, Dharmatala and Victoria Memorial switched off their lights as a symbol of protest against the rape and murder of the doctor last month.

Common men joined the doctors outside the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and carried out a candle march calling for justice to the victim. West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose also joined the night vigil and lit a candle at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata in protest over the rape and murder.
The protesting doctors had urged people to turn off their lights and light a candle on Wednesday from 9 pm to 10 pm to honour the 31-year-old doctor who was brutally killed on August 9.
Along with common people, BJP leaders including Sukanta Majumdar and Agnimitra Paul, also switched off their lights as a symbol of protest and joined the protest rally.
Meanwhile, doctors at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi carry out a candle protest to protest against the RG Kar rape-murder incident.
Earlier on Wednesday, several lawyers formed human chains outside the Calcutta High Court and Bankshall Court in Kolkata, seeking justice for the doctor. They held placards and shouted slogans outside the court buildings.
After forming a human chain, the lawyers practising at Bankshall Court participated in a rally for the victim.
The incident has triggered nationwide outrage, with protesters from various walks of life taking out rallies, seeking justice for the medic.
