A Sealdah court in Kolkata on Friday rejected the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) appeal to conduct a narco analysis test on Sanjay Roy, the prime accused in the alleged rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital, an official stated. Roy, who had initially agreed to undergo the test, later retracted his decision, the officer confirmed.

"The accused did not agree to undergo the narco analysis test when the judge personally asked him about it," news agency PTI reported the officer as saying.

The CBI had approached the city-based Sealdah court, seeking permission for the test in an attempt to verify Roy's version of events. On why the central agency wanted a narco-analysis, a CBI officer told PTI, "This is primarily to cross-check whether Roy is telling the truth. The narco-analysis test will help us to verify his version". During this test, the subject is administered sodium pentothal, which induces a hypnotic state, neutralising imagination and often leading the accused to reveal truthful information, the officer explained.

The CBI has already conducted a polygraph test on Roy at the Presidency Correctional Home, where he remains in custody.

In addition to these tests, the investigation saw CBI sleuths collect Roy’s dental impression on Thursday. According to officials, this could serve as crucial evidence, as bite marks were found on the victim's body, a fact mentioned in the post-mortem report. "Our idea is to match those with the accused's dental impression," the officer added, as per PTI.

In addition to this, a CBI team visited RG Kar Hospital on Thursday, where the body of the postgraduate trainee doctor was found on 9 August. As part of their investigation, they spoke to hospital officials and visited various departments. Later, the team brought the deceased doctor's parents to the hospital for further questioning.

"We asked them some specific questions during the visit," an officer disclosed, adding that the parents left after spending around two hours at the hospital, as per PTI.

Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, is the only individual arrested in connection with the rape and murder case so far. The CBI took over the probe following a directive from the Calcutta High Court.

‘Why Is CBI Delaying Trial’: TMC MP Derek O'Brien Alleges Delay In Filing Chargesheet In RG Kar Case

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien has criticised the CBI for the delay in filing a chargesheet in the case.

In a post on X, the social media platform, O'Brien raised concerns about the wait for justice for the victim's family. "How long will the RG Kar victim's family have to wait for justice?" he asked, while highlighting the Supreme Court's monitoring of the case.

He urged the CBI to expedite the process, saying, "CBI has the accused and all the evidence. Why is it not filing a chargesheet and starting the trial? We all want swift justice. Why is CBI delaying the trial? We need answers."
