Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Probe Intensifies in Meghalaya
According to news agency PTI, the Meghalaya Police, which is investigating the murder, questioned several individuals linked to Sonam and Kushwaha, including a taxi driver suspected of transporting Sonam from Indore to Uttar Pradesh following the murder.
Raja Raghuvanshi had gone missing on May 23 while on his honeymoon in Meghalaya, just days after marrying Sonam on May 11. His mutilated body was discovered on June 2 in a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra area, also known as Cherrapunji, in East Khasi Hills district.
Police sources told PTI that Sonam was allegedly involved in a relationship with Kushwaha, who worked in her family’s Sunmica business. On Thursday, her brother, Govind Raghuvanshi, was seen outside the Crime Prevention Branch office in Shillong, where the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Meghalaya Police was carrying out interrogations.
Govind informed reporters that while he was called to the police station, he was not questioned. He added that the police recorded the statements of several individuals working in their family business as well as some of Kushwaha’s associates.
The SIT also recorded the statement of the taxi driver allegedly involved in helping Sonam flee. After the murder, Sonam reportedly returned to Indore and remained hidden in a rented accommodation for a few days before surrendering to the police in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district on 8 June.
So far, the Meghalaya Police have arrested five people in the case: Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raj Kushwaha, and Kushwaha’s friends Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi.
