The BJP on Thursday refuted the Trinamool Congress's claims against President Droupadi Murmu's remarks on sexual abuse and harassment of women. The TMC alleged that President Murnmu singled out the Kolkata doctor's rape and murder and chose to ignore the atrocities inflicted on women in the rest of the country.

In an exclusive interaction with ABP News, former BJP MP Roopa Ganguly said that the TMC had stooped to disrespecting the President of India with its claims. "Only TMC can say such things. I have seen bits of the videos of what she said. It's clear that she spoke about the entire nation."

She said: "This is how TMC attacks people. They spare no one. They didn't spare Prime Minister Modi and now, they are targeting President Droupadi Murmu. The way they speak is very disrespectful." She further alleged that during the BJP's 12-hour 'Bangla Bandh' on Wednesday, August 28, she was beaten up by the police, who were backed by "TMC goons".

Alluding to Draupadi's character that she played on TV's Mahabharat, the actor-turned-politician said: "I was thrashed by the police. No Krishna came to save me. And Mamata Banerjee accords so much respect to the police." Roopa Ganguly said she was arrested and "harassed by TMC goons". "They [Police] arrested me and kept me at the police station till the night. Am I a murderer?"

"Yesterday [August 28], I was alone on the streets. I was not stopping any bus. I saw there were four people on the bus. Yet, I did not try to stop it. But they [police] twisted my hand. I repeatedly asked the police to stay away from me and not to touch me. But they sent women police officers backed by four drunk goons," Ganguly told ABP News.

Roopa Ganguly Reacts To Abhishek Banerjee's 'BJP Started This...' Remark

TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday said that the BJP had started the chaos in Bengal but the TMC will finish it. Reacting to his remark, Roopa Ganguly said: "What did they start? Rapes? If BJP workers are involved in rapes, arrest them. If any BJP worker is involved in organ trafficking in hospitals, bring them out. We want a clean West Bengal."

"If any BJP person is involved in the August 14 incident to destroy evidence, bring them out. This is your [Mamata Banerjee's] job. Why don’t you hand over to the CBI the people police arrested? The case is with CBI — why have you kept them in your jail? Why don’t you hand everyone over to the CBI," she said.

Roopa Ganguly Alleges Mamata Threatened Action Against Doctors

Roopa Ganguly further alleged that CM Mamata Banerjee had threatened action against the doctors protesting the medic's rape and murder at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. "Yesterday, you [Mamata Banerjee] said that if the doctors don’t return to work, you will file FIRs against them and ruin their visas and passports. You’re threatening and scaring them. The people of West Bengal have listened to your threats for 13 years," she said.

CM Mamata, however, slammed the claim and said that this was a malicious disinformation campaign. "I have not uttered a single word against the [medical etc] students or their movements. I totally support their movement. Their movement is genuine. I never threatened them as some people are accusing me of doing. This allegation is completely false," she said in an X post.

"I have spoken against BJP. I have spoken against them because, with the support of the Government of India, they are threatening the democracy in our State and trying to create anarchy. With support from the Centre, they are trying to create lawlessness and I have raised my voice against them," CM Mamata said.
