Patna Facebook Live Suicide: A 28-year-old man from Patna on Wednesday evening killed himself during a Facebook LIVE suicide. The man, identified as Amit Kumar Yadav, blamed his father, brother, and girlfriend for taking the extreme step.
Amit Kumar Yadav, a resident of Pirdamaria Ghat under the Malsalami police station area of Patna City, came live on Facebook and narrated that his father and brother had thrashed him over a property dispute. He also blamed his girlfriend for causing him mental pain.
"I am not going to shed tears before my death," Amit Kumar Yadav said before jumping into the Ganga. The police rushed to the spot after getting information about the incident and launched a search operation with the help of an SDRF team. However, they could not find Amit. The SDRF team said that the search operation will continue on Thursday.
The SHO of Malsalami police station Rajkumar Singh and his father Baiju Prasad Yadav are calling it an "accident". They say that the youth was climbing a tree in the middle of the Ganges while taking photos and videos when his foot slipped and he fell into the Ganga and drowned. However, the Facebook LIVE video of the incident points to a suicide.
In June, a 27-year-old man, Mrinmoy Talukdar, in Assam's Guwahati took his own life and streamed the incident on Facebook Live. He was reportedly suffering from depression, but he did not reveal the reason for taking the extreme step. He was found hanging from the ceiling of his rented accommodation.
Earlier that month, a 38-year-old man from Maharashtra committed suicide over the Maratha quota demand led by Manoj Jarange. He held a Facebook Live session to talk about the issue with other protesters. Soon after the session, he was found hanging from the ceiling at his Pune home. He left behind a suicide note urging Manoj Jarange to continue pressing for the Maratha quota.
