The Patna police have registered a case against three unidentified men for allegedly attempting to molest a woman doctor from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Patna. The incident occurred in the Phulwari Sharif area on Friday, reported news agency PTI.

Sushil Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Phulwari Sharif-1, said that the doctor lodged a complaint stating that the incident occurred on Friday morning while she was on her way to the AIIMS on her scooter. She reported that three men on a motorcycle accosted her and got into a heated argument with her. They also tried to molest her, the complainant said.

Based on the doctor’s complaint, a case has been filed, and police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify and catch the accused.

The doctor said that she was alone when the incident occurred. She told the police that as she left the hospital premises, the miscreants began harassing her. When she resisted, they started following her.

The accused followed her for about a kilometre, attempting to intimidate her. The doctor somehow managed to flee the spot and reach the local police station, at which point the miscreants fled. She then lodged a formal complaint with the police, who assured a thorough investigation into the matter.

Recent Cases Of Sexual Assault Against Medical Professionals In India

This case follows the recent incident in West Bengal where a woman doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College was allegedly raped and murdered on campus. The incident sparked nationwide outrage and widespread protests.

Although the widespread agitations were to protest the Kolkata case, the safety of women medical professionals is being questioned with a spurt in cases of violence against them in other states. In Uttarakhand, a nurse was allegedly raped within a week of the Kolkata incident. Around 10 days later, a nursing student was found in a critical condition after being raped in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri. Earlier in July, a nurse was raped and her head was smashed in Rajasthan's Rudrapur.
