Patan Metro Accident Update: A tragic accident at a Patna Metro construction site claimed two lives and left six others injured late Monday night. The incident occurred in the Peerbahore area when a crane's brakes failed, leading to the fatal mishap inside the metro tunnel between Patna University and the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), news agency PTI reported.
The deceased, a driver and a worker, were reportedly from Odisha. The injured have been admitted to Mediversal Hospital, with one individual in critical condition in the ICU, while the others are reported to be stable.
Patna’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajiv Mishra confirmed on Tuesday that both the Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) and the Patna district administration have launched investigations. He said action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, adding that accountability measures are expected following the completion of the probe.
District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh explained that the accident occurred around 10 pm due to brake failure on a locomotive vehicle within the tunnel.

3-Member Team To Probe Incident
In response to the accident, a three-member investigative team has been formed to determine the exact causes and recommend safety protocols to prevent future incidents. This team includes officials from the district’s law enforcement, labor, and engineering departments.
Following the accident, officials from both the district administration and the PMRC have remained at the site, coordinating the response and collecting preliminary data. Additional District Magistrate (ADM) and other key officials were dispatched to supervise the operations.
However, the PMRC has faced scrutiny from eyewitnesses who allege that no engineer or supervisor was present at the site during construction. While PMRC initially claimed that all injured had been discharged after treatment, they have yet to address the allegations of inadequate supervision at the time of the incident.
