Scary visual came to the fore on Thursday from Haryana's Faridabad where a two-storey house collapsed like a pack of cards due to heavy rains in the Delhi and the adjoining regions. The building in Chandpur village was reportedly old and was evacuated so there were no casualties when the house toppled.
A similar incident took place in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur on Thursday where a married couple was killed after a wall of their house collapsed. Both the persons had died before they were pulled out of the rubble. The couple had three children who were safe as they were out of the home when it collapsed.
Delhi faced incessant rains on Thursday morning, resulting in waterlogging and traffic congestion across the city. The relentless showers left several areas, including Tigri, Parade Road Underpass, Delhi Cantonment, and Dhaula Kuan, inundated, causing difficulties for commuters.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate showers in the national capital, accompanied by thunderstorms, a day earlier. However, the actual rainfall exceeded expectations, catching residents off guard.
The heavy rainfall was not limited to Delhi, as other parts of the country, including Kerala and Gujarat, are also experiencing similar conditions. In Kerala, the weather department has predicted that the rainfall would intensify in the coming days, issuing a "yellow warning" for several parts of the state.
The IMD has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several states across India in the coming week. Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Saurashtra are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, while states in the northeast can expect heavy showers.
A more severe situation is predicted in parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, where widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over the next seven days. Additionally, isolated very heavy rainfall is expected in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Odisha.
