Nainital Rains: Gaula River Swells, Five State Highways Among 39 Roads Shut; Residents Advised To Move To Safety

Nainital Rains: Heavy downpour has caused severe waterlogging, road closures, and a dangerous rise in river levels. The administration has issued an alert and urged residents to move to safety.

Nainital Weather: Heavy rainfall in Nainital has severely affected normal life. Continuous rainfall over the past 24 hours has led to waterlogging in urban and rural areas. A total of 39 roads, including five state highways, have been closed due to the rains disrupting traffic and causing significant inconvenience to people.

Due to heavy rainfall, the water level in the Gaula river is rising rapidly, reaching 45,500 cusecs. Several villages and settlements are in danger due to rising water levels in areas around the river. The water level in the Shernala, a seasonal stream located on the Haldwani and Chorgalia route, is rising too, making the situation more critical.

Keeping in the situation, the administration has issued an alert in the Terai region. People living near the river are being urged to move to safe places.

Appeal By Administration To People

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Thursday a depression had originated over central India and was expected to bring heavy to extremely heavy rain in Uttarakhand and surround regions over the next couple of days.

The IMD said Uttarakhand was likely to experience light to moderate rainfall until September 14, with heavy to extremely heavy downpour in isolated areas. 

The administration has advised local residents to be prepared to deal with any emergency situation and follow government guidelines.

Heavy rainfall and rising water levels have created a serious situation in the Nainital district. The administration, rescue teams, and emergency services are actively monitoring the situation and relief work is underway in the affected areas.

The authorities have requested the local people to stay in safe places and follow the advice of the administration in case of any emergency.

Meanwhile, the situation in Uttar Pradesh also seems to be out of control due to the rain. Rainfall has resulted in loss of life in several places, with people dying due to wall collapses in some places and lightning strikes in others. CM Yogi has also announced compensation.
