'Muslims Should Not Come Out Of Their Homes On Holi If...': Sambhal CO Sparks Row With Comment On Jumma

A Sambhal Circle Officer's statement advising Muslims to stay indoors during Holi, coinciding with the second Friday of Ramzan, has sparked controversy.

A comment on Holi and Ramzan by Sambhal Circle Officer Anuj Chadhary has sparked controversy. The sacred month of Ramzan holds deep significance for Muslims, and this year, the second Friday of Ramzan falls on March 1 — coinciding with Holi. Now, Chaudhary's statement has sparked a row as he advised the Muslim community to stay indoors if they are uncomfortable with Holi celebrations.

'Jumma Comes 52 Times A Year, Holi Comes Once'

Speaking on the matter, CO Anuj Chaudhary remarked, “Friday prayers happen 52 times a year, while Holi comes only once. If members of the Muslim community feel that Holi colours might affect their religious beliefs, they should not come out of their homes on that day. However, if any miscreant is found causing trouble during Holi, strict action will be taken. We shall not allow peace to be disrupted in Sambhal.”

He further stressed, "If you choose to step out on Holi, you should have the mindset that everyone is equal. Just as the Muslim community eagerly awaits Eid throughout the year, Hindus look forward to Holi. Holi is celebrated by applying colors and sharing sweets, while Eid is marked by preparing special dishes and visiting loved ones. Mutual respect is key to peaceful coexistence."

According to the Islamic calendar, the holy month of Ramzan began on March 2, 2025. During this period, four Fridays hold special religious significance for Muslims. The first Friday prayer of Ramzan falls on March 7, followed by the second on March 14, the third on March 21, and the fourth on March 28. These days are dedicated to special prayers and devotion to Allah.

'Hitler's Rule In UP'

Hindu leader Swami Chakrapani backed Chaudhary. He said: "The comment is great for the country. Those who want to play Holi, they should come out. Those who want to spread chaos should sit inside. If a jihadi wants to spark riots, its better a police officer warns them to sit home."

AIUMM spokesperson Hafiz Sarwar slammed Chaudhary. He said: "A government official should not say such things. UP Chief Fire Officer Pramod Sharma had earlier compared CM Yogi to Lord Ram and himself to a member of the vaanar sena. Instead of issuing such statements, officials should discuss issues, if any, with both communities."

Deepak Ranjan said that Chaudhary's comments were reflections of an autocratic ruler like Hitler.
