A man died by suicide after jumping off the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link at Atal Setu which connects the city with neighbouring Navi Mumbai. The body is likely to be recovered from the sea, according to police.


According to a report by NDTV, at around 10 am today, a man halted his red Maruti Brezza car and jumped off the bridge, according to police who reviewed CCTV footage. Authorities are still working to figure out the identity of the man.


The Atal Setu, India’s longest sea bridge spanning over 8 kilometres, links Mumbai with Navi Mumbai and was inaugurated in January 2024. There have been multiple incidents on the bridge involving individuals attempting to die by suicide by jumping off it.

A Man Jumps To Death' From Atal Setu


A similar incident was reported on September 5, when a 35-year-old man died after allegedly jumping off the Atal Setu. The victim was identified the victim as Alex Regi, a resident of Maharashtra's Pune. 


Regi drove to the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, stopped his car, and jumped off the bridge, with the act captured on CCTV, according to Times Now, citing police sources. His family reported that he had been under mental pressure from his job at a nationalised bank. 


Police have recovered the body of Regi from the sea, though no suicide note was found with his belongings.


In a similar incident in August, a woman attempting to die by suicide by jumping off the Atal Setu was saved by a cab driver and police personnel. A video shared on social media showed the driver grabbing her by the hair as she jumped, while four officers quickly joined in to pull her to safety.


The woman was later taken to a police station in Navi Mumbai, where her family was informed, according to a report by the Indian Express.
