Actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty joined a protest rally in Kolkata, demanding justice for the trainee doctor, who was allegedly raped and killed at the RG Kar Hospital.
Chakraborty, who joined the BJP in March 2021, took part in the rally, which was participated by hundreds of people amid the ongoing agitation across the state over the rape and murder of the doctor that happened last month.
The BJP leader said that Bengal is fighting against injustice and the people will not stop until they get justice.
"This Bengal is a Bengal that fights against injustice. Until now, our voices have been suppressed. Now, people are not afraid. This (protest) will not stop until we get justice," Mithun Chakraborty told reporters on Wednesday.
Last month, he had slammed the West Bengal government over the rape and murder of the trainee doctor, saying "The condition in West Bengal will turn worse in the days to come. As a Bengali I no longer have the strength to keep my head straight. My sympathies are with the victim's family. Those who are involved, should immediately be arrested and punished."
Meanwhile, thousands of junior doctors from across West Bengal held a sit-in protest in front of Swasthya Bhavan, West Bengal health department headquarters demanding justice and systemic reforms. The protests have been ongoing for over 28 hours since September 10.
The protesters' are calling for the arrest of all those involved in the alleged crime, the resignation of police commissioner and state health secretary, and disciplinary action against the former principal, Sandip Ghosh.
The protest has also garnered widespread media attention and sparked public debate about the handling of sexual violence and the responsibilities of authorities.
