A 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped in her Pune apartment by an unidentified man who gained entry posing as a courier delivery agent, police said on Thursday. The incident took place around 7:30 PM on Wednesday in the Kondhwa area of the city.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Rajkumar Shinde, the woman, who works with a private firm, was alone at home when the accused approached her under the pretext of delivering a parcel.
The man allegedly asked for a pen to sign a delivery receipt, and when the woman turned around, he forced himself into the house and latched the door from inside. What happened next remains unclear as the woman lost consciousness and only regained it around 8:30 PM, Shinde said.
Blackmail Note Left On Victim's Phone
After regaining consciousness, she found a selfie of the accused on her phone along with a chilling message warning her not to report the incident, claiming he had taken photos of her and would leak them on social media.
Police suspect the attacker may have used some substance or spray to incapacitate the victim. Forensic tests are underway to confirm this possibility.
CCTV footage from the locality has captured a clear image of the accused, and teams have been deployed to trace him. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including rape, voyeurism, and criminal intimidation.
Investigations are ongoing.
