A couple was fiercely attacked by a group of six men near Pashan Circle in the Pune district of Maharashtra late on Thursday night (April 17). The couple was attacked around 11 PM in the district, where the husband was critically injured and was admitted to the ICU, whereas the wife faced internal injuries and trauma.
According to a report by India Today, the victims, identified as Ketaki and her husband, named Amaldeo PVK Raman, were en route to their home from Mukundnagar following a dinner with friends. Later, they encountered two men on an Activa scooter who repeatedly obstructed their car's path while returning.
Ketaki added that the riders seemed intoxicated and grew hostile after her husband honked in an attempt to pass. "One of them got enraged, began hitting our car windows, and chased us for nearly 20 meters," she said in a post on Instagram that has since gone viral.
After the couple finally pulled over to deal with the situation, one of the men launched a physical assault on Amaldeo. The incident intensified when four more individuals arrived at the location.
Together, the group attacked Amaldeo using sticks and stones. Two of the assailants pinned him down while the others beat him brutally. Ketaki, who attempted to protect her husband, was also assaulted, kicked in the stomach, and hit in the face during the scuffle.
The attackers then turned their attention to the couple’s vehicle, smashing the windows and headlights with large stones. According to Ketaki, one of the stones even damaged the car's interior.
"We barely managed to escape. Amaldeo was bleeding heavily-his nose was fractured, and his ear was injured. A sonography later revealed swelling in my abdomen," she added.
Complaint Filed In Chatushringi Police Station
The couple immediately contacted Ketaki's brother, who rushed to their aid and took them to the Chatushringi Police Station to file a formal complaint. From there, they went to Sai Shree Hospital in Aundh, where Amaldeo was admitted to the ICU for further treatment.
Ketaki also voiced her dismay over the indifference of bystanders who recorded videos of the assault but did not step in to help. "People just stood there recording videos. No one came to help. That's the most heartbreaking part," she further added.
An FIR has been filed under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 118(1), 126(2), 115(2), 352, 324(4), and 3(5). A senior inspector from Chatushringi police station confirmed the developments, stating that "investigations are currently underway".
