Maharashtra Police on Saturday said that they have booked a case against a ration shop owner in Thane for allegedly fabricating documents to create ration cards.


The police said that the accused fabricated documents and rubber stamps to get a ration card made, news agency PTI reported.


An official from Manpada police station in Dombivili said that after receiving a complaint, a team from the crime branch raided the accused's property, following which 110 fake and fabricated materials were siezed.


According to Sub-inspector Kiran Bhise, Crime Branch Team, "The police found rubber stamps of various government departments, ration cards, forms and documents in the accused's possession."


A case has been registered under the provisions of sections 318 (4) (cheating), 335 (making a false document), 336(3) (forgery) and 340 (forged document or electronic record and using it as genuine) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. Further investigation is underway, and no arrest has been made in the case.

In September last year, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad arrested three people from the Bhiwandi area in Thane for allegedly making ration cards for Bangladeshi citizens using fake documents.


The police laid down a trap and arrested three people, after they reecived information that a few people were making ration card in Thane area.


The arrested accused were identified as ration card agents Irfan Ali Ansari and Sanjay Bodhe ,and ration card owner Naushad Rai Ahmed Sheikh, news agency ANI reported.


In June same year, a former village sarpanch was arrested from Thane for allegedly preparing fake ration cards and selling them to villagers.


The accused, identified as Nilesh Rasal, was preparing fake ration cards and selling them to villagers, who used them to avail benefits of government schemes.


An official said tht they recovered several documents, including tax receipts of villagers, rubber stamps of Khandpe village panchayat, and letterheads of the village sarpanch from the accused.


The official added that Rasal had served as sarpanch of Khandpe village between 2015 and 2020. The accused was arrested after an FIR was registered under charges of forgery and cheating.
