The Resident Doctors' Association of VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital have called off their nationwide strike, following the Supreme Court's appeal.
"Supreme Court today i.e. 22.8.2024 (Thursday) at 10.30 am, it was brought to the attention that justice will happen in a fast-track manner and also every step will be taken towards the prevention of violence against healthcare workers nationwide including at the Institute level. The Supreme Court has addressed the concern of the safety of healthcare workers, especially women doctors at a national level and has constituted a National Task Force. In view of the above developments in a positive direction, we held a GBM and have decided to suspend our strike till further notice," the RDA said in a press note.

CBI has got permission from the court to conduct a polygraph test on former Principal Dr Sandip Ghosh and four other doctors in Kolkata rape-murder case, news agency ANI reported citing CBI sources.
CBI brought former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr Sandip Ghosh to CBI Special Crime Branch at CGO complex, Salt Lake in Kolkata.
During BJP's protest march to Swasthya Bhavan against Kolkata woman doctor rape & murder, West Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari and BJP leader Agnimitra Paul demanded CM Mamata Banerjee's resignation.
"...Our only demand is the resignation of Mamata Banerjee," Paul said.
RG Kar Hospital ex-principal Dr Sandip Ghosh has been taken to Sealdah court by the CBI. The probe agency has taken him and four other doctor interns to likely seek permission for polygraph test.
After AIIMS RDA called off its 11-day strike, the resident doctors of RML Hospital have also called off their strike.
Over the CISF deployment order at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital by Supreme Court, DIG CISF K Pratap Singh said: "You can see we have already deployed. You will find us deployed in all the shifts. Let us do our job. It will all happen, just wait and watch."
AIIMS Resident Doctors Association called off its 11-day strike, following the appeal and direction of the Supreme Court.
"In the interest of the nation and in the spirit of public service, the RDA, AIIMS, New Delhi, has decided to call off 11-day strike. This decision comes in response to the appeal and direction of the Supreme Court. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Supreme Court for taking cognizance of the RG Kar Medical College incident and addressing the broader issue of safety and security for healthcare workers across the country," RDA, AIIMS stated in a statement.
BJP leaders, including LoP Suvendu Adhikari and MLA Agnimitra Paul, who were protesting against the incident of rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, were detained by the police.
The Supreme Court on Thursday passed an order saying that no adverse action should be taken by hospital authorities against doctors for protesting against the brutal rape and murder of a lady doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud urged the doctors to return to work and said that "Justice and medicine cannot go on strike!"

The doctors who conducted the psychological test of Sanjoy Roy, the accused in the Kolkata doctor's rape and murder are shocked with the results of the evaluation, sources in the Central Bureau of Investigation [CBI] said. According to the CBI sources, Sanjay Roy, who allegedly raped and then murdered a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, is a person with a sexually perverted mentality. Kolkata Police sources had earlier found that he was addicted to porn and his mobile phone was full of such videos. According to CBI sources, while answering the five doctors who conducted the psychological test, Sanjay Roy told them in detail about the August 9 incident. The Supreme Court on Thursday resumed hearing the RG Kar Medical hospital and medical college rape and murder case of an on duty lady doctor. At the beginning of the hearing, the counsels appearing for doctors from AIIMS Nagpur and PGI Chandigarh told the top court that hospital authorities are taking coercive actions against protesting doctors.

The CBI continued with its questioning of top officials of the RG Kar Hospital on Thursday. The CBI grilled former RG Kar hospital principal Sandip Ghosh for the seventh consecutive day. The agency sleuths also summoned various other top authorities of the hospital, including its current superintendent and vice-principal Bulbul Mukhopadhyay and her predecessor Sanjay Vasishth, for questioning.
Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital, appears to be a “sexual pervert” who has shown no remorse during his questioning, sources in the Central Bureau of India (CBI) said.
CBI, which took over the investigation from the city police after a Calcutta High Court order on August 13, has subjected Roy to psychometric tests, which can be loosely termed a form of personality evaluation to identify a person’s cognitive functions.

The Calcutta High Court has given a nod for filing a plea for an ED probe against RG Kar ex-principal Sandip Ghosh for alleged financial irregularities, according to a report by Times of India.
Earlier, counsel for petitioner Akhtar Ali moved the court of Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj, praying for an ED probe. Counsel Susmita Saha Dutta moved the division bench of CJ T S Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya.She challenged the state’s SIT, which she called an “eye wash” and urged for early hearing of the application.
A former deputy superintendent of RG Kar on Wednesday moved the Calcutta High Court, seeking an ED investigation against Ghosh, alleging financial irregularities by him during his tenure at the state-run facility. The court granted permission to Dr Akhtar Ali to file the petition which is likely to be heard later this week. Ali had earlier claimed that he had filed multiple complaints against Ghosh in 2023 to the state government before he was transferred. Meanwhile, Bengal government had on Monday formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the alleged financial irregularities.
Although no fresh arrests were reported in the case, the CBI continued with its questioning of top officials of the RG Kar Hospital. Sources told news agency PTI that a day before the agency was supposed to submit its investigation progress report to the Supreme Court on Thursday, investigators were trying to crosscheck a bunch of “inconsistencies” found in Ghosh’s statements.
Protestors from across walks of life, who joined in solidarity with the ongoing junior doctors’ agitation against the alleged rape and murder of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital medic, on Wednesday took the streets of Kolkata and beyond by storm, even as public healthcare in West Bengal continued to remain sorely affected.
"We want justice, whatever it takes to get it," said Sana Ganguly, daughter of former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly, as she participated in the candlelight protest along with her mother Dona Ganguly.
The West Bengal unit of the BJP will stage a 'Swasthya Bhavan Gherao' programme on Thursday to protest against the rape and murder of a junior doctor at the R.G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata earlier this month.
