The father of one of the three accused in the Kolkata law college gang-rape case has demanded strict punishment for his son in case he is found guilty of committing the heinous crime. 

Expressing faith in the Kolkata police and their investigation, the accused's father said: "First I am a citizen of India, then a father. The matter is sub-judice and the police are carrying out the investigation. We have trust in the court...Strict punishment should be given to him if he is found to be involved in the incident."

"We have full faith in the Kolkata police," he added.

A 24-year-old law student was allegedly gang-raped on the premises of South Calcutta Law College in Kolkata on the evening of June 25. In her complaint, she has alleged that she was raped by a former student of the educational institute, while two of her seniors assisted him and recorded the act. 

The prime accused is now a criminal lawyer and is said to have links to the ruling Trinamool Congress. All three accused have been sent to police custody till July 1.c

Meanwhile, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, along with other BJP workers, held a protest against the alleged gang-rape incident at the law college in Kolkata. He was later detained by the police, following which he slammed Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for "ruining the democracy in the state".

"This is the face of democracy in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee has ruined democracy in the state...The police has arrested me and other workers (of the BJP)," he said.
