Madhya Pradesh Student 'Jumps To Death' From Historical Site After Rebuke For Using Phone At School

Police suspect that there might be a possibility that the fear of being scolded by his family may have driven him to take this extreme action. However, a detailed probe is to rule out other possible motives.

A 17-year-old lost his life after reportedly jumping off the Jam Gate, a historical site in the Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. The incident occurred after his school implemented a ban on mobile phones and taking selfies on its premises, according to police.

A police official said Raj Osari, the Class-12 student of a government higher secondary school at Gulwad in the Mandleshwar area, was staying in the school's hostel. "Raj jumped from the Jam Gate and was then found in a ditch. While he was trying to jump, his relatives and the security guard posted at the site asked him not to do so, but he did not listen to them and took the extreme step," Khargone district Superintendent of Police Dharamraj Meena was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

The official said he was rushed to the nearest government hospital in Mandleshwar where doctors pronounced him dead. He added that the student was a resident of Kakad Khodri village in the Khargone district.

He also said that Jitendra Osari, the deceased's uncle explained in a statement to the police that hostel superintendent Prakash Girwal had called him to complain about Raj using mobile phones at school. "School principal K C Saand had also objected to Raj taking selfies at the school on Wednesday. But he threatened to commit suicide or run away from the school," he said.

However, the principal later asked the hostel superintendent to call the family members of Raj and resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Cops To Probe Cause Of MP Student's Death

But when his relatives, Krishna and his son Ganesh, visited the school to meet him, Raj ran away. They continued searching for him, but could not locate him. Later, when Raj came to the school, the hostel superintendent immediately informed his relatives. After the information, Raj's relatives again reached the hostel at 9.30 pm, but he managed to escape by jumping off the boundary wall of the hostel, the official said.

"He came to the school again late at night and ran away from the hostel after having breakfast on Thursday morning. The principal asked the staff to catch him but they were unable to do so," he said.

SP Dharamraj Meena further added that Raj's mobile phone was recovered at the scene. According to initial investigations, there is a possibility that the fear of being scolded by his family may have driven him to take this extreme action. However, the police are conducting a detailed probe to rule out other possible motives.
