Kedarnath News: At least three pilgrims were killed and several others were injured after a landslide struck a trekking route to Kedarnath shrine near Gaurikund early this morning. According to the State Disaster Response Force, the massive landslide struck the pilgrims near Cheedwasa, claiming three lives on the spot.
The rescue teams are at the spot and an operation to help the survivors is underway. The injured are being rushed to the nearest hospital.
"An accident occurred due to a landslide in Chidwasa on the Kedarnath Yatra route, this morning. The SDRF team reached the spot and took immediate action evacuated eight injured and took them to hospital. Three persons lost their lives on the spot, whose bodies were handed over to the district police by the SDRF team," SDRF said in a statement.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed grief over the incident and said he has ordered officials to provide better treatment to those injured in the accident.
"The news of some pilgrims getting injured due to debris and heavy stones falling from the hill near the Kedarnath Yatra route is very sad. Relief and rescue work is going on at the site of the accident, I am constantly in touch with the officials in this regard. I have given instructions to provide better treatment to the people injured in the accident immediately." he said in a post on X in Hindi.
