District and Sessions Judge in Maharashtra's Satara Dhananjay Nikam and three others were arrested in the Rs 5 lakh bribery case. The action was taken by the Satara Anti-Corruption Department. The judge had demanded the bribe to grant bail to the complainant's father.
The police caught the judge red-handed by laying a trap in a hotel in Satara. After that, a case has been registered and further proceedings are underway. Notably, this incident has taken place in the court premises.
BMC Engineer Arrested For Accepting Rs 3 Lakh Bribe
A BMC assistant engineer was arrested by the Maharashtra Anti Corruption Bureau for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from a contractor, an official said on Monday.
Ranjan Bagwe was held on Friday for allegedly seeking a bribe from a contractor who sought approval for public toilets as part of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's 'pay-and-use' scheme under the civic body's solid waste management department, the official said.
"The contractor had applied for approvals for toilet construction at Babasaheb Ambedkar Road and near Reay Road railway station. He was held while taking Rs 3 lakh from the contractor during an ACB trap," the official said.
In a similar incident in Rajasthan, the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Tuesday nabbed a subdivisional magistrate in Jhunjhunu while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh and an expensive dinner set.
Banshidhar Yogi, a Rajasthan Administrative Services officer, had demanded the bribe from the complainant in exchange for executing a decree, which was given in his favour by a court in a land dispute case, PTI reported. Yogi first demanded 20 bighas in his name. On the complainant expressing his inability to do so, the accused harassed him by demanding Rs 5 lakh.
Yogi had taken Rs 1 lakh bribe at the time of verification, a senior official said.
