IndiGo Airlines on Tuesday issued a travel advisory for passengers flying in and out of Mumbai as heavy rains lashed the city, affecting flight operations and slowing down surface transport.
“There’s a heavy downpour over Mumbai at the moment, causing some temporary disruption to flight schedules,” the airline posted on social media platform X, urging passengers to brace for possible delays.
The airline further advised travellers to plan their commute accordingly. “If you’re travelling today, please be aware of potential delays and allow additional time for your journey, especially with traffic moving slower than usual,” it said.
Heavy Showers In Mumbai
The advisory comes amid a spell of intense monsoon showers in the city since early morning, which has led to waterlogging in low-lying areas and affected vehicular movement on major routes, including the Western Express Highway and parts of the Eastern Suburbs.
“We're monitoring the situation closely and will get you airborne as soon as possible,” IndiGo assured in its statement, as it coordinated with airport authorities to minimise delays.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) authorities also confirmed that flight movements were marginally affected due to visibility and weather conditions but assured that operations were being managed as per standard rain protocols.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in Mumbai and adjoining areas over the next 24 hours, prompting city officials to remain on alert.
Passengers are advised to check flight status with their respective airlines before heading to the airport.
