Chennai News: Chennai skies are set to witness the breathtaking aerobatic prowess of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Sunday (October 6) when the IAF's range of new aircraft including Rafale, will roar in action. The scintillating air show, organised as part of the 92nd anniversary of the IAF, is being held at the Marina Beach in Tamil Nadu's capital city. 


As per the Indian Air Force, 72 types of aircraft comprising Rafale, SU-30, MIGs, Jaguar and Tejas, along with the iconic aerobatic teams of Surya Kiran and Sarang helicopter would be performing manoeuvres and synchronised formation flying during the air show. 


When And Where Will The Show Be Held?


The air show is being held at the world’s second-largest beach, Marina Beach in Tamil Nadu's Chennai on Sunday. As per Air Vice Marshal K Prem Kumar, Chief Coordinating Officer of IAF Day Parade Chennai 2024 to be held at Marina and Tambaram, "We expect 15 lakh people for the event to be held between 11 am and 1 pm on October 6."


This is the third time the IAF Day air show is being held outside Delhi and the first time in South India, over the skies of Chennai Marina Beach. Last year it was held in Prayagraj and the previous year in Chandigarh.


State and Central agencies are making all out efforts for the successful conduct of the airshow. The IAF aims at making it a Limca Book of Record with the participation.


Vantage Point?


The air show could be viewed along the stretch of Marina Beach between the Light House and Anna Square. However, the vantage point would be the shore opposite Vivekananda House where the dais for the dignitaries would be set up, according to a report by The Hindu.

Entry to the show is free, and anyone who wishes to witness it can walk to Marina Beach and enjoy the enthralling performance. 


How To Watch Air Show From Remote Location?


People can also witness the mega air show from the comforts of their homes. One can tune in to the official YouTube channels of Doordarshan National and Doordarshan Tamil between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday to watch the IAF's mega air show. 


What To Expect?


The IAF conducted a full dress rehearsal on October 4 in coordination with the IAF Tambaram. One can see the air capability of the new aircraft from IAF's inventory, including Rafale, Suryakiran which is a formation aerobatic team, and Sarang which is a helicopter aerobatic team, in air display.


The nation's pride, and our own indigenously manufactured state-of-the-art Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, Light Combat Helicopter Prachand, and Heritage aircraft like Dakota and Harvard are also likely to take part.
