In a commendable demonstration of swift coordination, the Hyderabad Metro Rail created a dedicated green corridor on Friday night to ensure the rapid transportation of a donor heart. Covering 13 kilometers across 11 stations in just 12 minutes, the operation played a crucial role in facilitating a life-saving transplant.

The special corridor was activated at 9:16 pm, enabling the seamless transfer of the heart from Kamineni Hospitals in LB Nagar to KIMS Hospital in Rasoolpura, Secunderabad, as per a report on PTI. The rapid transit significantly reduced travel time, enhancing the chances of a successful transplant for the recipient.

The effort was made possible through meticulous planning and effective coordination between Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities, medical teams, and hospital officials. Doctors overseeing the mission ensured the organ was transported under optimal conditions, highlighting the efficiency of the operation.

Hyderabad Metro’s Commitment To Emergency Support

L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (L&TMRHL), which operates the city’s metro services, reaffirmed its dedication to public welfare by leveraging its infrastructure for emergency medical interventions, as per reports. The organisation emphasised its commitment to assisting in life-saving efforts, ensuring that vital healthcare needs are met with urgency.

This is not the first time Hyderabad Metro has stepped up for medical emergencies. The metro’s ability to create green corridors in critical situations has set a benchmark for urban transit systems across the country.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad Metro Rail established a dedicated Green Corridor to facilitate the swift transportation of a heart from Kamineni Hospitals in LB Nagar to Gleneagles Global Hospital in Lakdi-ka-pul. Medical professionals covered the 13-km journey via metro in just 13 minutes, passing through 13 stations.

A Green Corridor is a designated traffic-free route between hospitals to ensure the rapid transport of organs for transplantation. Manually operated, this system enables seamless movement. India has implemented Green Corridors since 2014.

Hyderabad Metro serves around five lakh passengers daily across its three corridors, spanning 69.2 km.
